This project was born from the passion of the Toyota community — owners who wanted a true performance-oriented short shifter for their cars. Over time, it became clear that the market lacked a proper solution for these models. Toyota stopped producing OEM parts years ago, and the available aftermarket options simply didn’t meet the expectations of Celica fans — until now.

The Story Behind It

To make it right, our Coolerworx R&D team decided to take full control of the process by purchasing a Celica and using it for development.
We performed a complete 3D scan of the interior to ensure perfect fitment and precise measurements for both the shifter and the custom trim piece around it.

The result is a short shifter that not only brings back the original performance but improves it far beyond factory feel — sharper, more direct, and far more enjoyable to use every day.

The Challenge

Most Celicas from the ST200, ST202, and ST204 generations are now more than 25 years old. With time, many original shifter components wear out.
The stock linkage system uses rubber bushings that get soft and cracked, creating play in the mechanism and losing the solid shifting feel these cars once had.

To fix that, we developed our own tools to rebuild and improve the system. We also created a selector rebuild kit that replaces the old rubber parts with solid aluminum inserts, removing unwanted play and giving a much more precise feedback from the gearbox.

Together with our Cable and Selector Rebuild Kit, the Coolerworx Short Shifter completely changes the shifting experience in the Celica ST200 / ST202 / ST204.

It features a longer handle than the OEM unit, allowing quicker and more comfortable gear changes.
A centering spring keeps the shifter stable and helps you find each gear with confidence.
